Katronic at Warwick Manufacturing Group
Managing Director Andrew Sutton supporting business sustainability
Katronic Technologies Ltd. Managing Director Andrew Sutton was recently asked to present to a group of young business people at Warwick Manufacturing Group (WMG). The event took place at the highly impressive WMG facilities based on the campus of the prestigious University of Warwick. WMG is the largest department of the University of Warwick, with a turnover of over £110 m per year, 850 staff, 3000+ students and 250 PhD students. They describe themselves as “a multi-disciplinary department renowned for tackling industrial, environmental and societal challenges through collaborative research with companies of all scales and complexities”.
Andrew volunteered address the cohort of students on the opening session of a course entitled “Developing Future Sustainable Manufacturing Leaders”. The course is being run jointly between WMG and Sustainability West Midlands, the leading advocate for sustainability in the West Midlands area of the UK. Katronic are signatories to the West Midlands Net Zero Pledge, managed but SWM which embodies the Company’s desire and commitment to reducing its carbon footprint and working towards net zero.
The purpose of the course at WMG is intended to help young business managers:
- Gain practical knowledge of leadership, differentiating it from management,
- Strengthen key leadership skills: communication, resilience, and confidence,
- Learn strategies to create more time for effective leadership,
- Master techniques for building and sharing a vision that drives innovation and competitiveness.
Andrew was asked to participate in the role of “experienced manufacturing leader”. He presented on the topic of “Managing Yourself” which was based around discussion on his vision for sustainability within Katronic and his personal life. He was able to give an introduction to Katronic and the environmental applications for our KATflow ultrasonic flowmeters before providing insight into his experience in leadership and communication, with a focus on sustainability. Andrew was speaking on day one of the six-day course. The event was attended by approximately 20 young business people, and small group from WMG and Sustainability West Midlands. Organiser Liz McArdle of WMG commented “I do so much appreciate you taking the time to speak with the cohort. It generated lots of conversation and you even appeared in one of the summaries the group did for the day’s learning”.
As an organisation Katronic are always open to supporting local educational facilities and have worked with Universities both in the UK and in Wernigerode where the German office is based.
