Portable Flowmeter Brings Monthly Draw to a Close

The final winner has been announced in the Katronic 20th anniversary monthly giveaway. The last of our winners was General Motors (Vauxhall)

Vauxhall Motors is a trading name of General Motors UK Limited and is one of the oldest established vehicle manufacturers and distribution companies in Great Britain.

The company was founded in 1857 by a Scottish marine engineer named Alexander Wilson. It began life as Alex Wilson and Company and was based at 90–92 Wandsworth Road, Vauxhall, London. The company originally built pumps and marine engines until 1903 when its first car, a five-horsepower single-cylinder model steered using a tiller was launched. 70 vehicles were produced in the first year and had two forward gears and no reverse gear. The design was then improved in 1904 where a steering wheel and a reverse gear were added. Vauxhall continued to grow and the company was purchased in 1925 by the General Motors Corporation.

The Ellesmere Port plant where the flowmeter was purchased currently employs around 1,880 staff and has a capacity to build approximately 187,000 vehicles per year.

The KATflow 200 portable flowmeter was bought by the paint shop team as a tool for controlling flows throughout the car spray plant. The team had been successfully using an older Katronic flowmeter model for many years and had decided that the time had come to upgrade to the latest version. The ultrasonic flowmeters are able to measure many of the application in the paint system in spite of the fact that many of the liquids being monitored have solid contents of up to 40 %.

The prize awarded to Vauxhall is the last of our monthly draws and represents the end of the celebrations of our first 20 years in business. We would like to thank all of our customers, staff and suppliers who have contributed to this success, we can now look forward to the next 20.
